Looking for a new back yard

I'm tired.

I'm tired of everything being a struggle.

I'm tired of having to beat the odds.

I'm tired of fighting for the smallest bits of happiness.

I'm tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I would like for something...anything...to just be easy for a while.

It seems that our township plans to rezone the 230 acres behind ours to accomodate a 75-year expansion of a landfill that is currently almost a mile away. This expansion will bring the landfill close. Too close.

Our township officials' response? If we don't like it, we should move.

Given the state of our exhaustion, we think we're going to do just that (and give a big old F*** YOU to this place that is literally turning into a dump). If this had happened a few short years ago, we would have fought...hard. Now, it just makes us immeasurably sad to see our dreams so easily devalued.

I can tell you why there is an inherent distrust of the government...even local government. Because they'd sell you out in a heartbeat...with an, "I'm sorry...I feel for you...but I'm going to screw you over anyway."

I guess we've learned (a very expensive) lesson. Another lesson. I'm so f***ing tired of learning lessons already.

So now we just need to figure out the ins and outs of unloading our house without crippling ourselves financially. Should be fun.

Ouch, I guess you can't sue them for devaluing your property, can you?

I know some people here have done that and either gotten compensation from the company or the government, although you are in a completely different country, so ? Who knows?

I'm sorry this happened right after your reno.

That sucks. If you want to change states you can come live with me. ;) Think of it as an adventure. Because packing up a house and moving with small children is such a joy, NOT!! I did it when Alex was 2 weeks old.

Is the expansion of the landfill something you have to disclose on the form you fill out with the realtor? If not then hopefully someone who isn't familiar with local issues snaps up the place and then they can deal with it.

Yeah, I know, this freaking Merry Sunshine routine has got to go. ;) Hope it works out for the best.

You live on an acreage, right? That should help in terms of more appeal for a potential buyer (I would think...)

Were you notified of the rezoning requests prior to this notice of change? Again, I know it may not help after the fact, but I'm certainly hoping you CAN find some way to make this work for you and your family.

oh my friend, I am so sorry.

Huge hugs to you.

I can totally relate to the beginning of this post (right up to the rezoning bit).

But seriously? Does everything need to be a struggle? Is it mandatory somehow?

More huge hugs.

Oh Catherine, I'm so sorry - this is so awful!! I hope the rezoning won't pass and you'll be able to stay in the house you worked so hard to make such a beautiful home :(

Oh I can't believe it. I've seen the pictures of your gorgeous house, and I just can't believe after all that work you're going to have a dump behind it. Ugh. Another reason for me to hate the way we produce so much garbage.

You've got to be kidding me! A landfill behind your house and all they say is I'm sorry?! WTH is wrong with people!

My mom insisted on living independently. She wanted to live in the two-story house she and my dad built in the 70s, despite the fact that da...
