Ideas please

I want to give my OB a gift to say thank you for everything he did to help bring Myles safely into this world...and for generally being a fabulous human being and going above and beyond the doctor call of duty to be so kind to us.

Suggestions?

That baby in hands garden statue would look perfect in any OB's office. :-)

I have no idea of my own...but what Julie suggested sounds really lovely.

I like Julie's idea, but another idea would be a gift certificate to a nice restaurant...

Yes, I was going to say "Gift certificate to a nice restaurant" because that's what we gave my Ob as a thankyou for all her beautiful work caring for little W.

i'd go for the personal gift, too. not that something appropriate for the office isn't a lovely thought, but - taste is hard to reckon for and sometimes, to be honest, i've found it really hard to look at those baby-focused items at an OB's in times of grief or post-loss. i resent the faceless people who were happy enough to give one. i forget they might be you. :)

i like the "take yourself out on the town" kind of gift...for being a fabulous human being as well as a great doc.

he could be reminded of you every christmas...http://www.personalizationmall.com/Product.aspx?productID=5870&sdest=search&sdestid=0

i thought the pocket watch was cool, too...something like, "thank you for making a difference!"

Ummm, offer to have his baby?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriously, I have no idea, beyond perhaps a heartfelt letter of thanks. Really, what could possibly be thanks enough?

I agree with Aurelia (on the heartfelt letter thing, not the having his baby!)...that's something truly special. A small gift would be nice on the side, but the letter would be especially good.

I would go for the heartfelt letter. He'd probably appreciate your words much more than anything. That and it might help him help someone else thru it and reinforce his nice-ness when he has to do it again.

When we were going thru everything with Carli, we went to build a bear and made Carli her bear so she could have something soft with her. while we were there I saw the cutest set of scrubs that reminded me of seeing my dr in his when he was on call. we made him a bear to have in his office in those scrubs, and named him Doc. I think he really truly appreciated it, and he still comments about it!! ;) Plus adding a nice little heartfelt note would be nice too. I just made a nice little note on the back of the birth certificate from build a bear, with who it was from.

I sent our pediatric cardiologist a nice letter and a fruit basket from ManhattanFruitier.com.

i gave my OB tickets to our neighborhood house tours & a gift certificate for the nice restaurant at the end of the block. Sort of an 'afternoon on the town' gift...

If you are feeling real crafty... make an impression of Myles's foot and turn it into a paper weight that says, "You made an impression on us!"

Was also going to suggest manhattan fruitier. Their products are really lovely. The letter along with it would be very nice. It's sweet that you would do this. In the murk of everything after our son was born we plum forgot our OB. Then again, he got paid many hundreds of thousands of dollars to care for us. I'd say in the end we got the better end of that deal.

My mom insisted on living independently. She wanted to live in the two-story house she and my dad built in the 70s, despite the fact that da...
