That smell

Earlier this week I risked seeming like a complete lunatic and emailed the hospital where I delivered Alex. I asked them if they could tell me what soap was used to wash up the babies in the nursery. I just wanted to smell my boy again that badly.

Apparently it wasn't too strange of a question, because the hospital answered by telling me that they use Johnson & Johnson Head to Toe Baby Body Wash on all the babies in the nursery. I was able to buy some tonight at Walmart and I love it! THAT is the smell I cherish. I'm seriously contemplating what I can wash with it so that I can be reminded when I want/need to be reminded.

But I have to tell you that what I love even more is the knowledge that Alex was treated the way all the other babies are treated...he was given the same love and care in the nursery that is afforded to those babies that live and breathe. I don't know why it means so much to me, but it does.

I'm off to sniff some body wash. Sleep tight!

Believe it or not, I know wxactly what you mean! I have been tempted to wash my sheets in Dreft, but haven't just yet.
Maybe wash your face in the baby wash before bed and you might have a calm, relaxing sleep?

You know the thought of calling the nursery never even occoured to me!! What a great idea!! It's all I can do to contain myself and not call the hospital where I had Caleb! That was really a good idea. I agree with the other Julie, was your face, or maybe your hands before bed. How comforting to know that he was treated just like all the other babies!

I know it isn't exactly the same situation, but when my nephew Lucas died, I didn't wash the sweater I wore the last time I held him for at least a year. I was certain I could still smell his little baby smell every time I picked it up and sniffed it.

i kept sniffing my son's blanket until the smell was gone. i made myself think hard about it, though, and figure out the elements of his smell, and i wrote them all down so i could always go back and conjure it up again.
