Clothing jealousy

Sam is a boy. I love him dearly. He is my life. Let there be no doubt about that.

But the shopping...

The clothes...

The little boy clothing is just not so much fun.

I was washing some laundry for our house fire friends (sounds like a weird branch of Campfire Girls, doesn't it? God, I'm showing my age...do they even HAVE Campfire Girls anymore?)...anyway...I was folding their daughter's laundry after it had been washed and Oh.My.Gosh. The clothes are so stinkin cute!

I know I don't buy a lot of fashionable clothes for Sam (aka expensive), but I try to get him some of that good stuff from the consignment shop. So I got to thinking this morning that maybe I need to head directly to the source. Maybe the consignment shop doesn't carry the really good stuff because it's so cute nobody wants to re-sell it.

Uh...wrong.

First stop...Gymboree online...
~My child is NOT a football, baseball, or rugby player. So why, oh why, would I dress him like one?
~Big trucks and earth moving machinery...ok...you got me on that one...he loves that stuff.
~Plaid? Really? Like a mini Bob Villa?
~Stripes are generally innocuous enough. But the dark colors are really drab and boring if you ask me (which you didn't, but this is my blog so I'm gonna talk about it anyway).
~Button down Oxford shirts? Is he 4 or 40?

Seriously, I can't stand to step foot into a baby department in any store...but I'm jonesing so bad, I'm baby gift shopping for friends who have baby girls just so I can ooh and aah over the pinks and teals and purples. That's how bad it is. And poor Sam, I keep going on eBay and finding him cartoon character clothes just so he'll have something fun and young looking. Think he's mind if I snuck something ruffly into his wardrobe? (I'm going to end up putting him into therapy, aren't I?)

:) I think Sam's old enough to protest ruffles!!

But yes... boy clothes seem to be boring. We didn't know Kate was a girl and my preliminary window shopping for clothes was not too exciting under the "it's a boy scenario".

My favorite little boy's clothes are all from Gap Kids. The rest of it is often just lousy -- overly cutsey or totally boring or whatever. Some of the catalogs have nice stuff -- Hanna, miniboden, etc. but it is all WAY too expensive for me...i mean $26 for a kid's t-shirt? Are you kidding me?

I admit when Chloe came around i went wild with the ruffles & bows & dresses of little girl shopping. Of course, she is more of a tomboy and would rather just wear pants.

I agree with you.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make sure I have a girl the next time I get preggo.

Anybody got any ideas?

OK, we just spent like an hour at Ross yesterday with my trying to decide if it would be horrible if I dressed Mimi in boy clothes. I love all the frogs and fish and lizards and dinosaurs! I hate everything that says "Princess".

Flowers are ok, but hearts, leopard print, etc. are just gross. Gymboree is the exception, but we can't afford it. Bargain shopping for boys is SO much easier.

(This is all not to say that I do not enjoy dressing up my little girl, because I do.)

It's campfire girls and boys now.... I lived at a camp fire camp when I was growing up because my dad was the caretaker. I LOVED it.

Dressing a little girl is so much more fun then dressin a boy. I dressed K up all the time when she was little because the clothes were so cute.

With G I just have a hard time finding anything I really love unless it has Pooh on it.

You know what the pathetic thing is: Chas doesn't even like buying Angie clothes with ruffles.

I liked it when the Warner Bros. Store was still around. I could buy my nephews all sorts of cool cartoon character clothes.

It is really hard to buy clothes for boys unless it is completely preppy.

I have a Zutano fetish. They make cute clothes for girls and boys. But I don't think they go past toddler age. I've managed to find some very good deals on Zutano stuff on ebay. I also like LeTop, but I have yet to find good deals on that brand. I wait until my mom buys it for Gideon.

Another good brand...mulberrybush...but again...I think Sam is too old for it.

Maybe this is a marketing opportunity!

Old Navy?

i feel you - i hate that girls get better clothes than boys. but i console myself with the recently-gained understanding that after about 2T size, little girls' clothes get distinctly hoochie-mama-ish, and i will not have to deal with that nonsense!

but then those girls start to grow up and the table flips.
buying girl clothes for 8 and above is difficult(it sucks ) and buying clothes for my now 6 y/o boy is so much fun.

Now, see, I am a Gymboree whore. I love it. I think they have the most adorable clothes for boys AND girls. I just spent a load of cash there yesterday.

I love all little kid clothes, as long as they aren't "hoochy-ish" as Lauralu pointed out. Way too many slutty looking things for girls these days...

having a houseful of girls, I lament the hoochy factor constantly, especially now E is 6 and it's hooker or nothing. Ack. I quite like all the greens and frogs and stuff for boys. Is Sam into Bob the builder at all?

Mom

My mom insisted on living independently. She wanted to live in the two-story house she and my dad built in the 70s, despite the fact that da...
