August 1st

There is no contest, this has been the worst summer ever. And it just keeps dragging on and on and on and on...

Today, while driving to work and noting that it is, in fact, August 1st of the summer that turned from a dream into a nightmare, I saw three goldfinches fly from the bushes at the end of our drive. And as I was sitting waiting for traffic to pass, I saw a little blue finch flit past, in hot pursuit of the goldfinches. I started to think...always dangerous for me, as it allows too much room for sadness...this summer I have seen certain things I haven't seen in quite some time, if ever. I saw my very first hummingbird. After years of being mysteriously absent, I have seen MANY butterflies and dragonflies. I've notice birds with brilliant colors...reds, blues, yellows, oranges.

All amazingly vibrant creatures with wings.

I truly can't wait for the snow to fall.
