Trying Again

So I bought a book that was recommended to me. Thankfully, I bought it off eBay at a greatly discounted price, because it tells me absolutely nothing. Trying Again: A Guide to Pregnancy After Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss is NOT a "guide" to anything. It's filled with a bunch of statistics that I'm sure are meant to be reassuring. But when you've already come out on the losing end of the statistics once before, the numbers don't mean a whole heck of a lot. Much of what's in there can be divided into two points...1)Only you can say when you're emotionally ready; and 2)All those pre-pregnancy tips for "normal" people still apply (alcohol, caffeine, weight loss, etc).

Gee thanks.

I bought this book too. I found it somewhat interesting - I was hoping it was more geared towards Trying Again and the emotions that go with it, not just the being pregnant again part. Hmmmm. I have few books on overcoming the loss of your baby, have you bought any yet? If not, maybe I can give the titles to you.

I'm so, so sorry, hun.

I think Trying Again is more geared to miscarriage than Stillbirth. Instead, I would recommend Pregnancy After a Loss if you are considering trying again. Empty Arms is also a good book for dealing with the grief.

i found "trying again" and "pregnancy after a loss" (the second being somewhat better than the first) more helpful than any grief books, which to me were hokey. but it sounds like we have opposite orientations, in which case you might really like "life touches life", if you haven't read it already. many people recommended it to me and i hated it!!!! ;-p in fact, i'll send you my copy if you want it. for me, "when a baby dies", which is in the statistical school, was far more comforting than the supposed grief books. to each her own.
