More news that hits too close to home

Abducted newborn found; Woman arrested.

Beck (the suspect) had been pregnant but apparently miscarried shortly before her own child was to be born.

The abductor had been profiled as someone who had a child die recently or as someone who could not have children, told people she was pregnant and needed to steal a child so her lie would not be found out.

Shit...I fit half of the profile of a nutso!

Crap... I saw the story on the news very briefly on Monday... and hoped it wasn't someone who had just had a loss... just because it so fits into the crazy mom of dead children sterotype. (Or maybe i can relate too well to the stereotype!)

A story like this was on Law & Order last season. My DH kept looking over at me nervously while we watched the show. I finally had to turn to him and tell him to relax, I wasn't going to stalk any pregnant women!
Seriously, though, it makes you wonder just how terribly the hospital must've treated this poor woman after she lost her baby. I hope she gets some help.

About a year and a half ago, when I was pretty close to the lowest point I had ever been (and was really hating all pregnant women), there was a story here about a pregnant 25 year old woman who was walking in broad daylight with her 2 yr old and was stabbed in a frenzied knife attack by a total stranger. It happened about 20 miles from us, in a very rich, very safe quiet suburb. She lived but was paralyzed from the neck down. Her 2 yr old was unharmed as was the unborn baby (who has since been born). On the news they described the car that was seen been driven "erratically" away from the place where the woman was attacked and it was the exact make car we had at the time (they also said the car was out of character with the area, or some other snobbish statement like that - ie. rich people from this area wouldn't be driving this type of car). My husband actually asked me (half-joking, but still......) where I was and what I was doing when this crime happened. WTF??? But too him I *fit* the profile of her attacker. How scary.

When I heard that this morning, I was thinking about how many times I saw a baby and wondered if I could get away with it. Obviously, I've never done it, but it is not hard for me to see how someone could. So sad...for everyone involved.

You know, until I lost Jacob I could never possibly understand how this sort of thing happens. I certainly don't condone it, but I'm a whole lot less judgemental now.

I certainly fit the profile as well.

Ummm....if she 'miscarried' shortly before term wouldn't that be a stillbirth?

stupid news...

As the rest of the world, no doubt, looks at this woman with disgust, I realize that I can identify with the abductor much more than with the terrified mom. Not that abducting babies is acceptable by any stretch, but there obviously hasn't been the support given to this woman that she needed when her baby was, ahem, stillborn.

Strange life when you identify with the criminal, not the victim.

It is sad to see and wonder why this poor women didn't get any help with her grief. How can they expect a women to loose a child and then just be ok?

Mom

My mom insisted on living independently. She wanted to live in the two-story house she and my dad built in the 70s, despite the fact that da...
